LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network with over 175 million members and growing rapidly. LinkedIn connects you to your trusted contacts and helps you exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals.
If you aren’t using LinkedIn and have a small business then you’re missing out on some terrific small business benefits.
Automate your LinkedIn account
A lot of small businesses connect their LinkedIn account to their Twitter and Facebook accounts. This automation is so their LinkedIn account updates automatically when they post on either of their Twitter or Facebook accounts and vice versa. Automation tools like HootSuite allow you to write one post that simultaneously posts to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and any other social network you’ve set it up to link to. That’s a great way to keep up with your status updates on all the networks and expands your business reach easily.
Hootsuite will automate your tweets but it will also manage multiple social media accounts which is a great feature. You can create a dashboard that lets you monitor not only your Twitter accounts but your Facebook (this includes Facebook pages), LinkedIn, WordPress blog, MySpace and FourSquare accounts. This is so integrated that you can write one update that goes to any and all of those social media sources/pages.
Ping.fm posts from anywhere to anywhere! This is the ultimate and can be a time saver for those with many social network accounts. It also accepts SMS texts and e-mails for updating. This is an excellent service!
Using LinkedIn for Search Engine Optimisation
When logged in to your LinkedIn account you will see three areas to add your website links to your LinkedIn profile. Instead of displaying the default options of “My Blog” & “My Website,” click on ‘Edit’ beside these options and then click on ‘Other’. This is a chance for you to type in a keyword phrase that people search to find your business.
As you can see in my LinkedIn Profile pictured below, I changed ‘My Website’ to say Small Business Help
I then changed “My Blog” to show Small Business Info
I also changed another website to say Aussie Product Review (an excellent link to one of our sites)
This is an easy way to boost your rankings in the search engines!
Because both Google and Bing index LinkedIn content and rank LinkedIn high, when you optimize your LinkedIn profile and page with your relevant keywords that your customers use, your business gets another opportunity to rank highly for those terms in the search results.
Another reason to join LinkedIn is because your business’s LinkedIn page is likely to rank in the top 10 search results for your business’ name, simply because LinkedIn ranks high.
You can have your blog feeds automatically show on your LinkedIn account. Simply search for the WordPress (or whatever blog platform you use) application and import your blog feeds to show on your profile.
