To clean jewellery, soak in a solution of one part ammonia and one part cold water.
To clean grease from stove burners: Place the burners in a Ziploc bag with 1/4 cup ammonia and let sit overnight.
Remove scuff marks and dirt from white shoes by scrubbing with a solution of equal parts water and ammonia.
Lift carpet stains by spraying with a 50/50 mixture of ammonia and hot water then placing an absorbent towel over the stain and ironing. See below for details.

Brighten Laundry by adding 1/2 cup of ammonia to the washing machine with your regular laundry detergent.
Soften clothes by adding 1 cup of ammonia to the washing machine when you add your detergent. Pour the ammonia into the drum after it fills with the water for the wash cycle.
Tips & Warnings
- Never mix ammonia with chlorine bleach or any product that contains it. The resulting fumes are toxic.
- Before using ammonia on wool, silk or polyurethane synthetics such as spandex, mix it with a minimum of equal parts water.
Carpet Stain Remover
50% Hot Water
Mix together in a spray bottle and liberally spray the stain. Then lay a clean towel on top of the stain and using a hot iron simply iron over the towel and check how the stain is being removed. Repeat until the stain is gone.
Carpet and Upholstery
2 litres warm water
1 cup ammonia
Dampen a cloth in a mixture and sponge the stain with the damp cloth for several seconds and let the mixture dry on the fibres.
4 litres of water
¼ cup ammonia
Mix the contents together carefully and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Use to clean tiles and soap scum.
