You might know by now how much I love to make my own cleaning products, well when it came time to dishwasher bombsgive our dishwasher a thorough clean I decided to try this recipe – and it worked perfectly!

So if you’re into saving even more money around the home and are sick of trying to cut back against the food bill constantly, add this recipe to your collection.

Of course it’s easy, cheap and completely natural!

Ingredients

2 cups bicarbonate of soda

3 Tbls hydrogen peroxide – I used 6% but 3% will work fine too

15-20 drops essential oil – lemon and lime smell nice and kill bacteria naturally

Directions

Like all our ‘bomb’ recipes simply combine the ingredients well together until it has the consistency of wet sand.

I then push the mixture into ice cube trays and let dry overnight. As an alternative you can simply leave this mixture as a powder.

The next day simply pop out the dishwasher bombs from the ice cube trays if using and store in an airtight container.

To Use

Place 2 cups of white vinegar in a cup on the top rack of your dishwasher and then add one dishwasher bomb or two tablespoons of the mixture to the bottom rack. Run a cycle completely through on the highest and hottest dishwashing cycle you have without any dishes in the machine.

That’s it, effective, quick and simple to do. I’d recommend doing this once a month to keep your dishwasher fresh, clean and performing at it’s best.

White vinegar is a wonderful cleaning agent as it breaks down bacteria and dirt while also killing mould and mildew. Bicarbonate of soda neutralises odours and gently scours built up grime while the hydrogen peroxide is antibacterial and antifungal and of course is a great natural bleaching agent.
