Step 6: Doing dessert right
The final step in eating right and affordably is considering dessert. Dessert does not have to be the enemy of a healthy diet, there are plenty of ways to affordably and minimally (in terms of sugar) introduce desserts into a proper diet.
Consider some of the following items when planning your desserts.
- Yogurt and fruit
Yogurt and fruit can be a great and fun way to finish dinner. Best of all? It’s healthy and affordable!
- Fruit popsicles
You can make your own popsicles out of fruit juice by simply filling a popsicle tray and poking in the sticks as they start to freeze. (In terms of the popsicle sticks, you can use those or spoons – both work well!)
- Frozen fruit
Frozen fruit can be absolutely amazing, whether eaten with yogurt or mixed with dark chocolate. This is a perfect example of a healthy but delicious dessert that won’t break the bank.
- Home baking
Finally, be in control of what’s in the kitchen by baking it yourself. You can try out healthier versions of family favorites, chances are no one will notice the difference, and you’ll have saved a bundle by making it yourself.
Dessert doesn’t have to be a bad word when you’re trying to eat right. By taking time to plan your desserts, and doing a little bit of the work yourself, you can have healthy and affordable desserts that the family will still love.
We hope you’ve enjoyed these tips for eating right and eating affordably, we know we have!
